Lauren Alinna Swain, NP

Lauren Alinna Swain, 36, of Leesburg, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Piedmont Regional Hospital in Columbus.

Born on November 30, 1989, in Columbus at the same hospital where she passed away, Lauren grew up in Leesburg. She attended Lee County Schools through 10th grade, completing 11th and 12th grade through home school a year early. She earned her Associate of Science in Nursing degree from Darton College in 2010 and her Master’s degree from Georgia Southwestern State University in 2017.

Lauren spent most of her medical career at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center where she served as a Nurse Practitioner. She was a devoted medical professional who cared for her patients with much concern and dedication. For a short time, she worked at Preston Family Medicine in Preston. Additionally, she served as a flight nurse based out of Camilla for a while. Emergency and Critical Care medicine were her passion.

In August of 2025, Lauren was recognized as Phoebe Putney Healthcare's Advance Practice Provider of the year. Lauren proudly served with the Southwest Georgia Nurse Honor Guard which commemorates nurses who pass away.

Lauren was a loving and caring soul. She was known for her resolute candor in all areas of her life. In her free time, she greatly enjoyed reading, traveling, cruising, and taking naps. She also appreciated good food, art, and a variety of music. Lauren loved all animals and wanted one of everything including possums and raccoons. She cared for many stray and orphaned creatures in her lifetime. Lauren loved and treasured her family and friends. Thinking she would never have a child, she was overjoyed to become Carter’s mother.

Lauren was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Bruce Smith and her paternal grandfather, JW “Pa” Swain. She adored her Pa and treasured his memory. Though he passed away when she was only nine years old, his ethics and words of wisdom helped guide her throughout her entire life.

Those left to cherish her memory include her fiancé, Casey Wright of Leesburg; her son who she adored, Carter Ross Wright of Leesburg; two bonus children that she loved, Ava & Connor; mother, Charlotte Swain of Albany; father, David Ross Swain of Leesburg; maternal grandmother, Irmgard Smith of Pine Mountain Valley; paternal grandmother, Emmie Alice Milner of Leesburg; aunts, Heidi Smith and, Jan Roth; and cousin, Josh and Misty Roth and their children, Tyler and Jake.

Polish your nails, put on your makeup, and dress up a bit! Bright colors and a little shimmer are absolutely appropriate as we commemorate Lauren Swain. A celebration of her life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 13, 2026, in the chapel of Joseph W. Jones Funeral Home with Joseph W. Jones officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.

Lauren’s family is extremely grateful for the outstanding care provided for her by the team lead by Dr. Obiajulu Anozie at Piedmont Columbus Regional.

The family wishes to extend their condolences to all of those who are hurting and missing Lauren in this time of sorrow. They cannot thank you enough for the profound outpouring of love and support they have received.
