Larry Richard Smith "Richie"

Mr. Larry Richard Smith “Richie,” 58 of Opelika, AL, peacefully passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026, at home. Born on December 26, 1967, in Opelika, Larry was the son of the late Sebron Larry Smith and Judieth Dianne Richardson Treadwell. 

Richie was a very talented musician who began drumming in his early teens. Over the years, he played in numerous bands and could play virtually any genre of music. He especially loved to wow audiences with “Wipe Out” and “Old Time Rock & Roll.” Music was a lifelong passion for Richie and a special part of who he was.

Richie was also known for his undying sense of humor. With his quick wit and perfect punchlines, he had a way of making people laugh when they least expected it. His laughter, humor, and one-of-a-kind personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Richie bravely faced his battle with Parkinson’s Disease with strength and courage. In his final days, he cherished spending time with his sons and his beloved Siamese cat, “Boo,” who kept him company and brought comfort and companionship.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sebron and Nadine Smith and William and Sara Richardson.

He is survived by his two sons; Dillion Smith (Desi) and Logan Smith; sisters, Somer Bass (Rev. Tim), Gina Langley (Lynn), and Constance Smith (Lee); brother, Sebron Smith; aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Smith and Dr. and Mrs. Ken Smith; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and his grandson, Jack. The family will host a private memorial service in Alabama on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
