Elizabeth “Betty” Sifford

March 30, 1944 — June 11, 2018

Elizabeth Lindsey Sifford of Leesburg, GA went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ on June 11, 2018 after a long, difficult illness which she faced with great courage, grace and her “trademark” sense of humor. “Betty” was born in Washington, GA on March 30, 1944. She graduated from Columbus State University, first with a BS in Business, but later returned to obtain a degree in nursing from that same institution. She was one of the top surgical nurses in Columbus, GA and later a supervisor of nursing in hospitals in the Albany, GA area. She was so dedicated to her patients, that she was often found visiting them on her day off. She was the daughter of the late Olin Lindsey and Elizabeth Granade Lindsey of Washington, GA. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Gilbert Thornton and her second husband, Herman Sifford. During her lifetime she also excelled as an artist with one of her paintings being selected for display in the Columbus Museum of Art. Family members today, cherish many of her beautiful paintings. She is survived by her son, Stanley Thornton and his wife Charlotte, her sister Carol Lindsey Harris (Louis) and her brother William Granade Lindsey (Maureen) and a number of nieces and nephews. She was laid to rest next to her parents at Resthaven Cemetery in Washington, Ga. on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Franklin Graham ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, P.O.
