Leesburg

Mr. David William Murray, 88, of Leesburg, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at his home.

Born on March 1, 1937, in Providence, Rhode Island, David was the beloved son of the late Bernard and Meredith Blackmar Murray. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and dedicated his life to education. David spent more than 30 years teaching chemistry and physics at North Smithville High School in North Smithville, Rhode Island, where he eventually retired.

He cherished traveling the country in his RV, enjoyed gardening, and was known for his wisdom, quick wit, and love of laughter. Ice cream sundaes brought him great joy, and watching The Lone Ranger held a special place in his heart, as it reminded him of childhood moments shared with his siblings. A devout Catholic, David faithfully attended St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Albany, Georgia.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, David will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Muriel Landry Murray and 5 siblings.

Those left to cherish his memory include his 5 children and their spouses, Michelle Lapierre and Jerry of Woonsocket, RI, John Murray and Laurie of Woonsocket, RI, Bernell Murray of Jupiter, FL, Melissa Marquis and Robert of Acton, ME, and Laurie Dyer and Rupert of Leesburg, GA; his brother, Michael Murray; 12 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A celebration of life service will be held in Rhode Island at a later date to be announced.
